In today’s day and age, obesity has become the most widespread and serious medical challenge facing the world. The reason for this occurrence is twofold; lack of regular physical exercise and improper diets with high consumption of junk food. Obesity is directly linked to serious medical problems like cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and many types of cancer. Obesity can also lead to serious psychological problems like the loss of confidence and depression and thereby inhibit the professional and personal lives of individuals.

While public awareness of the problems associated with obesity is very high, most people still find it very difficult to lose weight. Any weight-loss regime must include both, an appropriate weight-loss diet and regular exercise. The choice of diet depends on the individual’s body type and his/her weight loss goals. Some of the most popular and proven diets for quick weight loss are described below. Ideally you should try these for at least a month and see if you see any change. If not you might want to try a second month or try another diet to reach your weight loss goals!

  1. The Atkins Diet: The Atkins diet or the Atkins nutritional approach was introduced by the popular American nutritionist Dr Robert Atkins in his 1972 book, Dr. Atkins’ Diet Revolution. His diet is based on the theory that consuming carbohydrates increases the production of insulin leading to an increasing appetite which then results in weight gain. Dr Atkins surmised that significantly reducing carbohydrates from one’s diet will help restrict appetite and the body will burn fat to generate energy instead of glucose thereby leading to weight loss. The Atkins diet is the first and the most popular low carbohydrate diet in existence. The current version of the Atkins diet allows “good” carbohydrates and restricts food articles containing trans-fat and saturated fat.
  2. Green Tea for weight loss plan: This green tea diet plan involves the use of green tea (obviously) taken a few times a day everyday. You would basically substitute a lot of your water and other beverages in a day with green tea which has many benefits and if you also replace juices and especially sodas you will probably save yourself a lot of sugar. If you read on about the green tea benefits you would see that as some studies have shown it might help your body metabolize fats up to 20% faster!  Of course this is in bonus to all the other helpful health benefits of green tea and it’s an easy addition to almost anyone’s meal habits and can even be combined with other weight loss plans!
  3. The Pritkin Principle: The Pritkin Principle is a vegetable and whole grains based diet that encourages low-fat meals, snacks, and stress reduction techniques on a daily basis. It was introduced by noted American nutritionist Nathan Pritkin. Unlike the low carbohydrate Atkins diet, the pritkin principle diet encourages the consumption of “good” carbohydrates in large quantities while severely restricting all types of fat intake. The pritkin diet forbids all processed food and all non vegetarian food items except seafood. Various studies conducted at UCLA and other universities have shown that the Pritkin diet leads to lower blood-sugar and cholesterol levels and also reduces weight gradually.
  4. The Zone Diet: It was introduced by the biochemist Barry Sears. The Zone diet encourages a balanced consumption of carbohydrates, proteins and fats in the 40:30:30 ratio. All bad carbohydrates are strictly banned while food items containing good carbohydrates (fruits and vegetables) are allowed. The Zone diet is based on Barry Sears theory that the human body is genetically programmed to reach peak efficiency when all meals contain carbohydrates, proteins and fats in a fixed ratio of 40:30:30 and this will lead to good digestion and weight loss. The Zone diet is extremely popular among many Hollywood celebrities.
  5. The South Beach Diet: It is the newest high protein, low carbohydrate and low fat diet. It was introduced by Arthur Agatston, MD, who believes that the main cause of obesity is the fast consumption of sugar and starchy foodstuffs which then enter blood stream and lead to weight gain. The South Beach diet claims to reverse this process in three phases. The first phase eliminates cravings and initiates the process of weight loss. The second phase is where long term weight loss takes place and the third phase helps maintain the desired weight level.

All the above diets should be implemented under some sort of medical supervision and should be combined with regular exercise for best results. Their is no magic pill to weight loss… Most products out there on weight loss are probably not all that healthy for you. Do you really think your body was meant to lose 50 pounds over a month and you will not suffer side effects from such quick weight loss plan? Probably not and that is why when looking for diets for quick weight loss makes sure to pick one that you think you can stick with for many months!
